Clearly explained: What are the components of an e-liquid?
Before we get down to business, we want to get you fundamentally up to speed when it comes to e-liquid. We will also give you some information about the ingredients that are generally found in every e-juice. The differences then arise from different flavor additives and mixing ratios, so that each base has its characteristic taste. Everything you need to know about it below:
- Propylene glycol (PG)
PG is an essential component of every e-liquid, its job is to act as a carrier for the flavors. The ingredient is approved as food additive E1520. Depending on the mixing ratio between PG and VG, the steam behavior changes. A basic rule is: the higher the propylene glycol content, the more intense the taste and the through hit.
- Vegetable glycerin (VG)
This ingredient has practically no taste of its own, binds moisture and ensures the development of steam. The higher the proportion of the food additive E422, the gentler the feeling in the throat - so the through hit is weaker the more VG is added.
- Water (H2O)
At HAUS DES DAMPFES, the liquid shop you can trust, we do not use water in the liquids. However, there are flavors and liquids that also use distilled, demineralized or double-distilled water for ready-made liquids. We recommend pure PG for diluting or liquefying. This ensures that the liquid becomes sufficiently thin - so it can be optimally distributed in the evaporator.
- Flavorings
The flavorings form the heart of every e-liquid; we differentiate between natural and nature-identical flavors. The former are of natural origin, while the latter are molecularly identical - but synthetic, i.e. artificially produced. Make sure that there are no oils or artificial colors in your home-mixed aroma!
Important: Before you become careless or unsure about the composition, stick to the tried and tested. In our liquid shop you can buy countless high-quality liquids quickly, easily and safely. Get inspired here!
Tips from HAUS DES DAMPFES: Storing and mixing your liquids correctly
Now that you've gotten to know the most important basic ingredients, it's time to make concrete recommendations on how you can get the most out of your base. Have fun experimenting!
- Tip No. 1: Buy the equipment for mixing liquid from a reputable liquid shop
You need certain individual parts to get to work yourself. These include suitable liquid bottles as well as syringes or pipettes, either 1x1ml or 1x5ml. You can find suitable basic liquids and aroma concentrates in our liquid shop.
- Tip No. 2: Mix liquid – Determine the correct mixing ratio using the liquid calculator
Please never vape flavors pure or undiluted, as the concentration would be far too high. You can always find the right ratio on the label, so you know how strongly the aroma needs to be mixed with a neutral base. Use one of the many free liquid calculators on the Internet to put base, aroma and, if necessary, nicotine in an ideal ratio to one another. Wait a few days until the liquid has fully matured.
Important: note the container size!
- Tip No. 3: Storing liquid – note the differences between nicotine-containing and nicotine-free liquids
When nicotine comes into contact with daylight or air, the color changes. However, the properties of the material remain identical. The situation is different with flavors; they degrade very quickly if they are stored incorrectly. Choose a cool, dark place to store your liquids. If your liquid contains a portion of nicotine, it is a little more sensitive - liquids free of nicotine additives allow for much more negligence.
- Tip No. 4: Bring liquids from refrigerators to room temperature first
The best way to store liquids is to use suitable plastic bottles and store them in the refrigerator. We only recommend glass bottles if you want to receive your own mixed liquids for a longer period of time (>3 months) - there is no risk of a reaction with the plastic, which could affect the taste. Since liquids become thick when stored in the refrigerator (keyword: viscosity), you should bring them to room temperature before using them in the tank. This way you can enjoy all the flavors without restrictions!
- Tip No. 5: Mix liquid – At the beginning only with nicotine-free base
Test yourself step by step by mixing only small amounts of liquids (e.g. 10 ml) yourself. Here you can try it out cheaply and, above all, adjust the aroma proportions as you wish. Dealing with nicotine is very important because it is not only expensive, but also highly toxic - absolutely avoid skin and eye contact! The same applies to the dosage of menthol or mint, which are clearly noticeable even in small amounts.
